Capacity-Building for Achieving Low Emissions and Climate Resilient Strategies in Cities at COP24

ICLEI South Asia participated in the 'Capacity-Building for Achieving Low Emissions and Climate Resilient Strategies in Cities' session at the COP24 in Katowice, Poland on the 11th of December, 2018.

The session, organised by ICLEI World Secretariat, aimed to present specific policy proposals to address capacity building gaps and needs relevant to the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in the context of the Paris Agreement and engagement of all levels of government.

The session drew on the challenges identified, as well as experiences shared and lessons learned from the Cities and Regions Talanoa Dialogues. This interactive session was designed to guide participants in developing policy proposals to address the identified capacity building gaps and needs.
Mr. Emani Kumar, Executive Director, ICLEI South Asia provided an overview of ICLEI's role in promoting sustainable development in cities and highlighted the several tools that were developed by ICLEI to support climate action and sustainable development initiatives - GCC, GPC, Heatplus, Clearpath, Solutions Gateway, IAP, TAP, Ecomobility and suchlike.
The role of stakeholders in city climate action was highlighted in ensuing discussions. The need to link city action with national targets such as in the NDCs was also discussed.
