The European Union-funded AdoptIUWM project has initiated the work on pilot project implementation in Rajasthan and Maharashtra. Successful door-to-door collection and segregation of waste has been introduced in Ward 28 of Kishangarh. The project has received a very good response, along with full cooperation of the residents. Up to 70 percent of waste segregation and nearly 100 percent of waste collection has been achieved at household level in the ward. For the project, extensive awareness and sensitization was undertaken at household level across the ward; and separate bins/bags were provided at the household level for wet waste and recyclable waste. A waste collection vehicle is being operated by ICLEI in partnership with a local contractor to collect segregated waste in separate bins. Other wards are now requesting ICLEI team to replicate the initiative in their areas as well.
Door-to-door collection of segregated plastic waste is also on -going in Jaisalmer in two wards, including the Fort city. Separate bags have been distributed at the household level for segregation of different types of plastics. ICLEI team undertook awareness generation activities in both these wards of Jaisalmer city; where .a waste audit, based on actual collections, has been completed. Plastic waste is being collected thrice in a week. Post-collection processing mechanisms are being established in Kishangarh and Jaisalmer.

Another pilot project on rain water harvesting for revival of abandoned/over used bore wells is being undertaken in Solapur. Three community hand pumps/bore wells (at a Temple, an Ashram for children and at Economically Weaker Sections or EWS housing) have been selected in Neelam Nagar area for roof top rain water harvesting through recharge pit connected to these hand pumps/bore wells. Work on connection of roof tops for recharge is ongoing.
