Nature-based Solutions to Build Urban Resilience Discussed at Happy Cities Summit

ICLEI South Asia partnered with Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) to organise the second Happy Cities Summit in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Emani Kumar, Deputy Secretary General, ICLEI moderated a session on nature-based solutions. The session focused on discussing the need to develop cities as blue and green and not as only structures of concrete.

The session discussed the efforts and initiatives being implemented in various cities and city-regions on mainstreaming nature-based solutions to build urban resilience, thereby promoting development of happy cities.

It also showcased the Cities with Nature iniatitve of ICLEI.

Speaking on the occassion, Kinlay Dorjee, Hon’ble Mayor of Thimpu said that governments should focus on the gross happiness index as a key development indicator and was happy that Andhra Pradesh is leading in India.

Thushara Sanjeewa, Hon’ble Mayor of Kurunegala City Council, Sri Lanka expressed his happiness being part of a global event like Happy Cities Summit and is keen on imbibing the learnings to build cities in Sri Lanka.

The summit saw high level participation from across the globe. All the sessions and workshops were highly interactive.
