Workshop and Scoping: Nature’s Benefits in Kochi

The workshop aims at understanding how to identify critical ecosystems for a city and how to evaluate the services being provided by the same.

The workshop is planned in a manner wherein the subject matter specialist will first explain the concept of ecosystem services to the participants, the type of ecosystem services and the methods used to evaluate them.

This will be followed by hands-on group exercises palled where the participants will themselves work and identify the ecosystem services provided by two critical ecosystems to a coastal city- mangroves and backwaters.

The event is a part of the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) supported INTERACT-Bio Project. The project is being implemented in three cities- Kochi, Panaji and Mangaluru, and it aims at mainstreaming biodiversity planning at the national and sub-national level.
