City Profile
The City of Edmonton is positioned on the banks of Alberta’s North Saskatchewan River and Canada’s fifth-largest municipality, with roughly 810,000 residents. As Alberta’s capital, it serves as the region’s governmental center. It is the most northerly city in North America and is also referred to as the “Gateway to the North.” Edmonton has the greatest area of parkland per capita in Canada, and its North Saskatchewan River valley parks system is the longest stretch of connected urban parkland in North America. Currently, the city’s Energy Transition Strategy is working to reducing and replacing the city’s dependence on coal, natural gas, and other unsustainable energy sources.
