ICLEI South Asia Partners with SouthSouthNorth to highlight the Devolved Climate Financing Model for Locally Led Adaptation
From 30 September to 4 October 2024, ICLEI South Asia, in partnership with SouthSouthNorth, facilitated a cross-regional peer-to-peer learning exchange bringing together stakeholders from Kenya and Nepal. This event, held under the CDKN programme, focused on knowledge exchange around Kenya’s Devolved Climate Financing model, which enables local-level climate adaptation actions.
Currently, Kenya’s national government operates the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme, designed to enhance local resilience to climate change and natural hazards. This programme strengthens local capacity for planning, budgeting, implementing, and monitoring climate resilience investments. By fostering collaborative partnerships among communities, national entities, and county governments, the FLLoCA Programme exemplifies a robust model for integrating locally-led climate actions into broader national strategies, providing valuable insights for the participants from Nepal striving for climate resilience. The Nepalese delegation visited the Makueni County to observe the on-ground implementation of locally led climate actions financed through the FLLoCA programme.
