Mayor of Karjanha Municipality Signs MoU with ICLEI South Asia under CDKN Phase III for Gender and Socially Inclusive Climate Resilience
ICLEI South Asia visited the cities of Dhulikhel and Karjanha of Nepal from 27 August to 3 September 2024 to assess their climate vulnerability and community adaptive capacities. This initiative aligns with the third phase of the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) programme, emphasizing gender and social inclusivity in climate adaptation.
In Dhulikhel, a comprehensive vulnerability and risk assessment was conducted across all 12 municipal wards to support the development of an Inclusive Local Adaptation Plan for Action (LAPA). Engaging discussions focused on the unique climate challenges impacting women and other marginalized groups, helping to assess the specific climate risks, vulnerabilities, and adaptive capacities within the community. Meanwhile, in Karjanha municipality, ICLEI South Asia facilitated the First Shared Learning Dialogue, which gathered 50 participants, including municipal officials and stakeholders, to assess climate risks and analyze its socio-ecological resilience. Highlighting Karjanha’s commitment to sustainable development, the municipality’s mayor formalized collaboration with ICLEI South Asia through a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a pivotal step toward strengthening climate resilience through inclusive, community-centered adaptation strategies.
