The Asia Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) Partnership (ALP) Forum 2021 is organized by the ALP Secretariat and LEDS Global Partnership (LEDS GP) and is supported by the GIZ, The Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and United States Department of State. The theme for this year is Advancing NDC implementation and strengthening Long-Term Strategies. The ALP forum 2021 serves as the premier gathering of policymakers, donors, practitioners and other experts involved in enabling low-emission, climate-resilient development in Asia, and explores synergies and collaboration opportunities to advance climate change goals. Further, the forum supports peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing, explores collaboration opportunities, and identifies the priority needs of the member countries.
ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide. Links and transfers on research and projects have been continuously extended with partners and relevant actors. The results have supported the development of guidelines, manuals and policies, built capacity, furthered partnerships, as well as ICLEI’s advocacy work, especially at the global level.
