City-Business dialogue at Global Town Hall @ Metropolitan Solutions 2014

After the success of the Global Town Hall @ Metropolitan Solutions 2013, urban planners and local decision makers will have the chance this year as well to engage in a dialogue with the business community. On 7-11 April 2014, they will meet in Hannover, Germany, in order to develop future solutions together while exchanging information and fostering a mutual understanding of both the supply and demand side of urban infrastructure solutions.
In an increasingly urbanised world where cities and businesses are under immense pressure to find effective infrastructure solutions that account for the environmental, economic and social aspects of urban sustainability, ICLEI Global Town Hall brings together local governments, business, researchers and innovative developers for five days of face-to-face conversation and information exchange. All Global Town Hall Dialogue sessions will be streamed live on the web and available on demand at http://www.metropolitansolutions.de/.
Short informational videos on urban themes or infrastructure projects will be shown. ICLEI invites video contributions for the same. The 5 day dialogue will also feature many exclusive sessions like local governments presenting their city’s strategies and visions for a sustainable future, infrastructure solutions by leading experts, summarizing of technological, organizational and financial solutions by various companies to urban sustainability challenges etc.

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.
Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:
- Surveys, best practices identification and documentation, methodological research, and other studies;
- Development of pilot and demonstration projects;
- Fee-for-service technical consulting in key management areas relevant to local government.
- Organization of conferences, seminars, training courses tailored to the needs of local government experts.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide.
