Conference on Role of Cities in Addressing Climate Change

The WWF-India, in partnership with ICLEI South Asia, is organising a conference on the Role of Cities in Addressing Climate Change in New Delhi on the 12th of November, 2018. The seminar will be held at the WWF-India Sectretariat, Lodhi Road.
The conference aims to provide cities a platform for deliberation on their role in addressing climate change and related issues of air pollution and health. Besides discussing policy aspects related to mainstreaming climate change issues in cities, and their linkages to the national NDC goals, the conference would facilitate networking among different stakeholders, both at the local and national level, to foster knowledge sharing, disseminate best practices, and build partnerships.
The key sessions at the event will be:
• Cities as stakeholders in the global climate & sustainability agenda
• Success stories of mitigation actions in cities
• Integrated approaches to address climate change and air pollution in cities
• Climate resilient planning in cities – challenges and the economic case

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.
Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:
- Surveys, best practices identification and documentation, methodological research, and other studies;
- Development of pilot and demonstration projects;
- Fee-for-service technical consulting in key management areas relevant to local government.
- Organization of conferences, seminars, training courses tailored to the needs of local government experts.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide.
