National Exchange Workshop under European Union supported PROMISE Project
19 - 20 April 2018
ICLEI South Asia is organising a national exchange workshop under its on-going PROMISE project on the 20th of April, 2018 in one of the project cities – Karnal. The workshop is from 10 am to 4 pm.
It will be attended by the elected representatives from Karnal, representatives from funding agency, members of national advisory committee for the project, members of core group committees in project cities, technical staff from project cities, neighbouring municipalities of Karnal and local stakeholders from Karnal.
The workshop will focus on updating the participants on the on-going project activities under the PROMISE project, and share sector specific learnings from all four project cities. The project team would also introduce the participants to the draft toolkit being developed under the project for all the project cities, share project related experiences, discuss good practices and sector specific case studies during the workshop.
ICLEI South Asia team, along with Karnal, would also organise a field visit for the participants to get a first-hand experience of the praiseworthy infrastructure projects in the city.
19 - 20 April 2018
ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.
Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:
- Surveys, best practices identification and documentation, methodological research, and other studies;
- Development of pilot and demonstration projects;
- Fee-for-service technical consulting in key management areas relevant to local government.
- Organization of conferences, seminars, training courses tailored to the needs of local government experts.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide.
