Resilient Cities 2014 – Where local impacts find a world of solutions!

Resilient Cities – The Annual Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation – is the global platform for urban resilience and climate change adaptation, hosted every year in Bonn. More than 500 participants and beyond 30 partners each year helped make Resilient Cities a milestone event connecting local government leaders and climate adaptation experts to discuss adaptation challenges facing urban environments around the globe.
The congress offers a number of sessions and events on a wide variety of topics amongst which were urban risk, resilient urban logistics, financing the resilient city, urban agriculture, smart infrastructure and many more. The forum gives a chance to interact with authoritative experts and the audience to build bridges across the public and private sectors and fields of expertise, learn about groundbreaking topics, gain practical knowledge with the Resilient Cities practical case studies, such as the Reality Check Workshops and start new contacts and develop new partnerships at the congress venue, an ideal location that fosters networking opportunities.

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.
Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:
- Surveys, best practices identification and documentation, methodological research, and other studies;
- Development of pilot and demonstration projects;
- Fee-for-service technical consulting in key management areas relevant to local government.
- Organization of conferences, seminars, training courses tailored to the needs of local government experts.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide.
