Scholarship Application: Renewable Cities Global Learning Forum 2017

Global Learning Forum 2017 is a solutions-focused dialogue on the transition to 100% renewable energy in cities. Leaders from local governments, the private sector, utilities, and the NGO and research communities will gather in Vancouver, British Columbia from May 17-19, 2017, to engage and learn.
Local governments can now apply for an entrance-fee waiver to the Forum.
ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS:
In order to facilitate access to Global Learning Forum 2017 and ensure diverse participation, scholarships are being offered to cover registration fees for eligible applicants.
These scholarships are intended for those who would not otherwise have the means to participate and belong to one of the following groups:
1) Canadian municipal staff or elected official;
2) International municipal staff or elected official; and
3) Developing country government, NGO, community-based organization, or academic faculty/staff. Eligible developing countries must fulfill UN classification in “Table C” at https://goo.gl/EJgi61)
4) First Nations, Indigenous, or Aboriginal persons working on renewable energy issues
Please note that this scholarship applies to Global Learning Forum 2017 registration fees only, it is the responsibility of successful applicants to arrange for their own travel and accommodation.
The limited number of scholarships will be allocated on a rolling basis to applicants who meet our criteria of need and fit—we encourage you to apply early. If your application is unsuccessful, we would still welcome your participation in Global Learning Forum 2017.

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.
Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:
- Surveys, best practices identification and documentation, methodological research, and other studies;
- Development of pilot and demonstration projects;
- Fee-for-service technical consulting in key management areas relevant to local government.
- Organization of conferences, seminars, training courses tailored to the needs of local government experts.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide.
