Action Plan to Protect Noida Biodiversity on the Anvil

ICLEI South Asia is developing the Local Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (LBSAP) for Noida city in the Delhi- National Capital Region. The project is being supported by the HCL Foundation. The LBSAP development methodology entails undertaking detailed consultations with a wide array of stakeholders in order to identify the critical ecosystems, the services they provide, and the threats they are facing.

The city residents are an important stakeholder group, and to document their perspectives, detailed consultations have been carried out with 12 Resident Welfare Associations in the city. A total of 11 critical ecosystems have been identified, and threats to each of these have been documented. Discussions with other stakeholder groups such as the government, NGOs, and academicians are also being planned.

The results of all these discussions will be compiled and presented at a larger consultation in order to finalise the list of critical ecosystems and the vision of the LBSAP of Noida. The action plan is likely to be developed and finalised over the next few months.
