CapaCITIES II: GHG Emission Inventories Compendium for Gujarat released
Shri. Bhupendrabhai Patel, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, released the ‘City GHG Emission Inventories Compendium for Gujarat (Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Rajkot) on the 21st of February 2022, during the ‘Building A Climate Resilient Gujarat’ event organised by the state government.
The compendium has been prepared under the CapaCITIES programme, which is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Several ministers and senior officials of the state and Dr. Jonathan Demenge, Head, SDC, were those present at the event.
The greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventories comply with the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories (GPC), and include energy consumption and GHG emissions from community activities (residential buildings; commercial and institutional buildings/ facilities; manufacturing industry and construction; agriculture, forestry, and fishing; mobile units including road transport, rail and aviation; waste, including solid waste disposal, biological treatment, incineration, and open burning, and wastewater) and municipal facilities (buildings, wastewater treatment, water supply, street lighting, and transport). This compendium includes information such as sector-wise energy consumption profile, relevant activity data, and GHG emissions for FY 2016-17 to FY 2020-21, for all three cities, which will inform the Climate Resilient City Action Plans of the cities.
