Changwon at the Urban Mobility India conference in Delhi

The Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Expo is an annual event with an overarching theme which runs across all the aspects of ‘Smart Mobility’ and is hosted by the Institute of Urban Transport (India) under the aegis of Ministry of Urban Development (MOUD), Government of India. The genesis of UMI is from the National Urban Transport Policy of the Government of India, 2006 (NUTP), which lays a very strong emphasis on building capabilities at the state and city level to address the problems associated with urban transport and undertakes the task of developing sustainable urban transport systems.

 

In line with this year’s Smart Mobility theme, ICLEI South Asia organized a session at the UMI focusing on the various aspects of ecomobility: walking, cycling and ‘passenging’ on public transport, on Saturday 08 December 2012 titled ‘Ecomobility in cities: an Asian perspective’. read more

Advocacy

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

Training

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.

ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide. Links and transfers on research and projects have been continuously extended with partners and relevant actors.
