Kakinada CRCAP: City Officials Discuss Findings of Emissions Inventory, Climate Risk Analysis
ICLEI South Asia organised a consultation meeting with Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) on May 21, 2024, under the C40-supported project, Mainstreaming Climate Action in Three Cities in Andhra Pradesh. The project aims to integrate and mainstream climate considerations in the planning, implementation and delivery of municipal services in the city, while supporting the reporting of climate action information to national and international platforms.
The meeting in Kakinada was spearheaded by the municipal commissioner, along with members of the Climate Core Team, constituted within the KMC under the project, and representatives from the stakeholder committee. The ICLEI South Asia team presented the findings of the urban systems baseline, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, and the climate risk and vulnerability assessment for validation and to seek inputs. The participants discussed the key findings and the way forward for preparing the Climate Resilient City Action Plan (CRCAP) for the KMC and other activities under the project.
Technical assistance to be provided to the KMC towards implementing climate actions on energy audits in municipal infrastructure and green municipal buildings was also discussed, and a plan of action was laid out. With the support being provided under the project, Kakinada is set to navigate towards a net-zero and climate-resilient future by committing to climate-compatible urban planning and development.
