ICLEI South Asia, with support from Clean Air Fund, will extend technical assistance to four municipal corporations in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) to improve air quality. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Meerut Municipal Corporation, and South Delhi Municipal Corporation have expressed their interest and appreciation for receiving technical inputs from the ICLEI South Asia team.
The two-year initiative will be implemented under ICLEI South Asia’s new project on ‘Building City Leadership on Clean Air Action in Delhi-NCR. The activities under the project will be in line with the targets of the Government of India under the National Clean Air Programme, among other policies and programs, and will focus on encouraging the cities to take ownership of their work related to air quality improvement, and facilitating interactions and knowledge exchange between different stakeholders in Delhi-NCR. ICLEI South Asia will support the municipal corporations in developing generic actions to improve air quality based on existing resources, and in exploring potential partnerships to conceptualize and implement pilot projects.
The project team is currently holding meetings with the municipal authorities and is working on documenting information on air quality and on identifying areas for providing support and good practices.
