This project has now been concluded.
Over two years, the project seeks to build low carbon cities by developing appropriate urban climate guidelines for two Indian states, plus an India-specific GHG Protocol based on the Global Protocol for Communities and a Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system for low carbon actions. Financially supported by the British High Commission in India, this process is being implemented by ICLEI South Asia in seven cities in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan: Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Kota in Rajasthan and Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli and Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. Based on an analysis of on-ground realities, a report on financing opportunities for low carbon action was written and State-level stakeholder consultation meetings have been held in Jaipur and Chennai.
An online portal on leveraging funds for low carbon action is now live at http://urbanlowcarbonfinance.iclei.org. Action plans for seven cities have been developed, and a comprehensive energy inventory has been concluded in each.
