Social Inclusion in Climate Resilience Planning The session aims to, through 'serious fun games', facilitate practitioners and local governments to deepen their understanding of the need for, barriers to, and strategies for achieving more socially-inclusive climate resilience. In addition, an innovative Gender Training Toolkit has been developed that can support local authorities to integrate gender and social inclusion in urban development and climate resilience projects. The session is organised by ICLEI South Asia and Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN). Date: 13 May 2022 Time: 14.45 – 16.45 CEST/18.15 – 20.15 IST Circularity to Overcome Plastic Waste Management Challenges This session will discuss the issues and challenges arising out of inadequate management of plastic waste and generate a discussion for introducing circularity concepts in plastic waste management through successful and replicable case stories of circular waste management from different parts of the world. Advocacy

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

Training

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.

ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.

Consultancy

Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide. Links and transfers on research and projects have been continuously extended with partners and relevant actors.
