CapaCITIES II: Workshop Primes Urban Local Bodies on Preparing Climate Action Plans
ICLEI South Asia, in collaboration with South Pole and econcept AG, conducted a training workshop for engineers from 18 urban local bodies (ULB) and the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, Tamil Nadu, on the 5th of April 2023.
The workshop, held in Chennai under the CapaCITIES phase II project, which is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, focused on the issues of climate action planning and climate financing. Inaugurated by Shri. Vishnu Chandran, IAS, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Administration, Government of Tamil Nadu, the workshop was the first in a series of capacity-building trainings for ULBs that will be held under the leadership of the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration.
Mr Nikhil Kolsepatil, Senior Manager, ICLEI South Asia, presented the processes involved in creating a Climate Action Plan. Additionally, Mr Mehul Patwari, Director of Sustainable Infrastructure Finance, South Pole, conducted a hands-on session on calculating the financial viability of solar power projects.
The training also served as a sensitisation programme that would help ULBs to prepare Climate Action Plans as part of the Tamil Nadu Climate Resilient Urban Development Programme (TNCRUDP).
