CDKN Asia, TARU Develop Knowledge Materials on Heat Resilience and Disaster Preparedness
Under the CDKN Knowledge Accelerator programme, TARU Leading Edge Pvt. Ltd. has developed a City Heat Resilience Toolkit to sensitise and capacitate urban local bodies on risks and impacts of excessive heat events. The toolkit provides a decision-making platform for local governments to analyse direct and indirect impacts of heat waves on the public environment and health, typically focusing on the range of populations including vulnerable and marginalised sections. It also provides a range of solutions over the broad spectrum of technology, infrastructure, policy, and financing with a major focus on inclusivity. The toolkit builds on the primary learnings from the city of Surat along with secondary literature which is elaborated in the Demonstration Packet.
Moreover, looking at the growing need to ensure children have uninterrupted access to education during disasters or calamities, a handbook on Emergency & Disaster Preparedness for Urban Schools is developed by Taru Leading Edge Pvt.
Given the fact that children are expected to spend a majority of their time at school, a safe and secure environment is a prerequisite for effective teaching and learning. The handbook is to enhance the preparedness of schools in case of disasters. It is aimed at schools authorities, teachers, support staff and other individuals who could be engaged during emergency and disaster preparedness. It provides guidance and understanding to the key actors to take necessary measures pre, during and post-disaster. The knowledge product is developed under the larger CDKN Knowledge Accelerator programme supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
