Climate seminar: identifying cities’ challenges to resilience
A joint seminar on Climate Resilient Action: Accelerating Urban Investments and Finance in India was held on 11 December 2012 in Coimbatore. The seminar was jointly organised by the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA), the Rockefeller Foundation and ICLEI in close collaboration with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation. The seminar aimed to identify the main urban services, infrastructure investment and financial challenges faced by Indian cities as they strive to increase their resilience to climate change.
Speaking on urban development projects to be implemented in the city, Mr. S.M. Velusamy, mayor of Coimbatore, vowed that conventional light bulbs in Coimbatore would be replaced with 22,000 LED lamps and that the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation was aiming at a 35 percent cut in its total energy requirement by using renewable energy sources, such as solar energy. read more
