ICLEI South Asia and Partners Present Green City Action Plans (GCAPs) to Malaysian Minister and ADB Officials
The Asian Development Bank (ADB), with support from the Ministry of Economy, Government of Malaysia, is providing knowledge and technical assistance (TA) to help 14 Malaysian cities develop comprehensive Green City Action Plans (GCAPs). These plans align with the strategic objectives of the Twelve Malaysia Plan (12MP), ensuring that Malaysia’s cities are on track to becoming greener, more resilient, and sustainable.
On 12th September 2024, during the 30th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Ministerial Meeting in Desaru, Johor, Malaysia, a significant step toward greener, more sustainable urban development was taken with the official handover of the Green City Action Plans (GCAP) for Penang Island, Langkawi Island, Kota Bharu, and Kuching (Padawan).
The GCAP TA Implementation consortium, including ICLEI South Asia, ICLEI Southeast Asia and the IMT-GT Joint Business Council Malaysia, proudly presented the action plans to Mr. Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economy, Malaysia, Mr. Scott Morris, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Mr. Alfredo Perdiguero, Director, Regional Cooperation and Operations Coordination Division, Southeast Asia Department, ADB.
These action plans represent a comprehensive approach to fostering sustainable urban growth through collaboration, innovation, and strategic planning. As we continue to build resilient, low-carbon cities, these plans will serve as crucial roadmaps for the future of urban development in the region.
