Jammu, Srinagar Develop Strategic Focus on Biodiversity Conservation with New Action Plans
Shri Arun Mehta, Chief Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir, released the Local Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (LBSAPs) for the cities of Jammu and Srinagar at an event in Jammu on the 25th of April 2023.
The LBSAPs have been prepared by ICLEI South Asia in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Biodiversity Council, as part of the INTERACT-Bio project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUV).
The plans will help Jammu and Srinagar to undertake action at the local level to achieve the targets in the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and are also an effective means for mainstreaming biodiversity conservation.
They contain detailed profiles of the cities, including a biodiversity profile, various relevant international, national, and local laws, strategic goals and actions for different focus areas, and tools that could help in the implementation of the action plans. LBSAPs are mandated for all signatories to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
