Kochi’s New Attractions: Pollinator and Herbal Gardens

A pollinator garden and a herbal garden have been developed by ICLEI South Asia in Subhash Bose Park in Kochi, under the INTERACT-Bio project that is funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

The pollinator garden will provide a suitable food base for the native butterfly and moth species, which will help to enhance their population and support the augmenting of food production in the city. The garden will serve as a live interpretation zone to help visitors understand the ecosystem services being provided by pollinators. The herb garden will help them to appreciate the diversity and significance of medicinal plants found in and around the city. It can also serve as a nursery for medicinal plants.

These gardens were inaugurated on the 12th of April 2021 by well-known actor and Padma Shri awardee, Mr. Bharat Mammootty, in the presence of  Hon’ble Mayor Advocate M Anil Kumar and other dignitaries.
