ICLEI South Asia has initiated a project to document the diversity of grass species in Goa, supported by the Goa Forest Department. As part of the project activities, the grasslands have been marked on the Geographic Information System platform, and the team has initiated surveys.
Quadrats are being laid to identify and quantify the grass species that are present. The compiled list will be analysed to identify the native species and their palatability. Based on the findings, site-specific recommendations will be developed, which will help the Forest Department to understand how the quality of the grasslands in the state can be improved.
