Siliguri Gets First Automated Organic Waste Compost Plant

As part of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation-supported CapaCITIES project, an automated organic waste composting plant has been established in the city of Siliguri.

The plant was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mayor Shri Asok Bhattacharya on the 22nd of September, 2019.

Segregated waste from wards 2 and 17 (where the SUNYA project is being implemented) will be initially processed at the plant to produce compost.

Staff of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation will be provided hands-on training for six months in the operation of the plant.

The city authorities plan to expand household-level waste collection to the entire city and process the organic waste in the long run.
