Stakeholder Consultation Reflects on Development of Local Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for Rajkot
ICLEI South Asia is developing the Local Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (LBSAP) for Rajkot, under the CapaCITIES phase II project, which is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Corporation. LBSAP is a guiding strategy with specific actions suggested for local governments to achieve “optimal and realistic governance and management of biodiversity and ecosystem services.” The development of LBSAP at the level of the urban local body is mandatory as per the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. In this regard, the first stakeholder consultation was held in Rajkot to highlight the critical ecosystems of the city. The data is being compiled and specific actions for each ecosystem along with the vision statement will be developed.
