Training Workshop Highlights Best Practices for Climate-Resilient City Development
The Asia LEDS Partnership (hosted by ICLEI South Asia), organised a training workshop on preparing Climate-Resilient City Action Plans (CRCAP) on the 13th and 14th of November 2019 in Thimphu, Bhutan. The training was based on the ClimateResilientCITIES planning methodology, that was developed under the CapaCITIES (phase 1) project that was supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
30 participants, including representatives from Bhutan’s Thimphu Municipality, Gelephu and Sarpang Governments and Sri Lanka’s Kurunegala City Government, attended the workshop. There were eight technical interactive sessions, followed by working group exercises. The technical sessions also included guidance and training on the importance and method of conducting the greenhouse gas emissions inventory and climate vulnerability assessment as per the methodology.
Based on experiences of cities in India, the training also shared best practices for climate-resilient planning and development, particularly focusing on the steps involved in the preparation of a robust CRCAP.
The workshop was designed to help build the competencies of participants in designing, developing and implementing CRCAPs and projects that support a sustainable environment and green development objectives.
Representatives of subnational governments of Bhutan and Sri Lanka also shared experiences on unique sustainable development initiatives that are being undertaken in their cities.
