Project Summary

This project has now been concluded.

Climate change is a reality and internationally a lot of activities are being planned and measures undertaken in various sectors to address the same. Fast growing urban settlements are highly vulnerable to its impacts as more than 75% of the world’s energy is consumed in the cities.

In view of latest developments in the field of climate change within the country, ICLEI South Asia is supporting the Change Management Unit (CMU) of Kolkata Urban Services for the Poor Programme (KUSP) in creating awareness on climate change among urban managers in West Bengal with a focus on KMA ULBs, in order to develop a climate change roadmap for KMA region to mainstream climate change more effectively within developmental activities being carried out at state and ULB level.

Objectives

  • Create climate change awareness among urban managers (state-wide) especially on fundamental concepts, likely impacts, possible mitigation and adaptation alternatives, and global experiences.
  • Develop a climate change roadmap for Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA) urban local bodies (ULBs).
