Project Summary

IGES Center Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (IGES – CCET) works with UNEP-IETC to provide guidance on waste management strategies and their implementation. In India, ICLEI South Asia has been selected as the technical partner, to support the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in developing a plastic waste management strategy and action plan for the city of Hyderabad. Guidance on a state level policy will also be developed. A pilot project that would result in building capacities of the GHMC to manage plastic waste in accordance with stipulated national Rules, will also be implemented.

 

Outputs:

1. Preparation of status report on plastic waste management in GHMC

2. Preparation of plastic waste management strategy and action plan

3. Support for the implementation of a pilot/model project

4. Preparation and dissemination of guidelines for plastic waste management that can be used by GHMC and other ULBs and for developing a state level policy
