Project Summary

This project has now been concluded.

Both Indonesia and South Africa are at a stage where national policies on climate change mitigation have been formulated, and there is scope for cities to begin taking concrete action.

With an aim to promote knowledge exchange between cities in the developing world, the project cities of Ekurhuleni, South Africa and Yogyakarta, Indonesia will join ICLEI’s Local Renewables (LR) network to increase the uptake of RE and EE at the local level. They will be guided by the city of Coimbatore in India, an established LR city. Funded by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership, this new initiative will run from 2011 to 2013.
