Project Summary

The proposed study is a scientific attempt to analyse magnitude, composition and seasonal variation of solid waste generation in the Himalayan region. The project envisages providing the requisite technical support to assess the baseline situation of waste management in the identified study area and to engage all relevant stakeholders in a dialogue to arrive at guidelines for sustainable solid waste management in Himalayan states and mountainous regions in the country.


Expected Outputs:

• A comprehensive baseline report on the existing situation of municipal solid waste management in the identified region of the Himalayas

• Support to conduct field surveys regarding awareness towards sustainable solid waste management in mountainous regions and to provide local assistance for waste characterisation study and surveys

• A sustainable solid waste management action plan for the targeted trekking route of Himalayan region with focus on plastic waste

• Guideline for sustainable solid waste management in Himalayan states and mountainous regions in the country
