The Hyderabad City Biodiversity Index, launched at the Cities for Life summit, makes Hyderabad the first Indian city to have assessed the level of biodiversity on the CBD-endorsed City Biodiversity Index (CBI).
Hyderabad has joined a group of 14 international cities to publish a CBI and has scored 36 of a possible 92 points, with Brussels achieving the highest score of 55.
Chief minister of Hyderabad, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said at the launch that there was a recognized need to revive biodiversity, especially native species which the city had lost in the past few decades.
