City resilience strategies have been developed for 20 cities in India and Bangladesh using the ICLEI ACCCRN Process (IAP) under the ACCCRN – Translation and Scaling Up Project supported by Rockefeller Foundation. In India, the CRS has been prepared for the cities of Dharamshala, Mandi, Dehradun, Nainital, Keylong, Shillong, Gangtok, Kurseong, Siliguri, Patna, Nashik, Panaji, and Kochi. For Bangladesh, the cities are: Barisal, Singra, Mongla, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Sirajganj, and Kustia.
ICLEI South Asia supported the local authorities to conduct the IAP in these cities. The cities formulated Climate Core Teams and Stakeholder Committees that led the implementation of the IAP toolkit. The IAP helped to assess the vulnerabilities of their fragile urban systems, recognize climate risks to these systems, and identify vulnerable actors and areas in the city that need to be addressed in a resilience strategy. The cities identified resilience interventions to reduce the climate risks of vulnerable populations and places within the city from their fragile urban systems.
The CRS reports have provided a set of resilience interventions to address the climate risks for each city and the vulnerability of their fragile urban systems. The identified resilience interventions have been prioritised as per the resilience scoring based on the improvement to flexibility, redundancy, and responsiveness of the fragile urban systems and the improved access to information in the city. These interventions have also been linked to existing or proposed initiatives in the city so as to identify possible sources of funding for them.
