The third multi-stakeholder co-creation workshop under the Social Innovation Platform (SIP) took place on 26 August 2026, bringing together 42 representatives from the Tiruchirappalli City Corporation (TCC), self-help groups, NGOs, resident welfare associations (RWAs), and universities.
ICLEI South Asia is implementing the SIP in Tiruchirappalli, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to strengthen participatory urban governance and accelerate local action towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative adopts a deep listening approach to engage communities, identify locally relevant priorities, and co-create innovative, context-specific solutions that support sustainable urban development.
The workshop, organised at the Tiruchirappalli Corporation building, provided a collaborative space for citizens and institutional stakeholders to ideate community-identified solutions for prevalent urban challenges, building on insights gathered through previously conducted deep listening exercises.
The workshop began with interactive exercises to validate and prioritise urban issues, allowing participants to share their experiences, provide feedback, and collectively assess challenges based on their urgency and severity. Participants then worked together to jointly define clear problem statements, building a shared understanding of the contributing factors, root causes, and their effects on vulnerable communities.
A key component of the workshop was the solution-mapping exercise, where participants collectively brainstormed responses to ward-level challenges. Proposed interventions were mapped across three dimensions, individual, community, and Urban Local Body (ULB), to identify where different actors could contribute and where institutional support and resources would be required. The exercise also helped uncover existing opportunities, capacities, partnerships and resources that could support implementation.
The co-creation workshop marked an important step in the Social Innovation Platform implementation process, bringing together community knowledge, institutional perspectives, and local capacities to shape contextual solutions.
