Maharashtra is taking important steps towards building a greener, more climate-resilient and sustainable urban future.
ICLEI South Asia was honoured to present the ‘Maharashtra Green Climate’ agenda and key priorities for sustainable urban development in a meeting chaired by Hon’ble Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in the presence of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Hon’ble Minister for Environment & Climate Change and Animal Husbandry, Government of Maharashtra, Pankaja Gopinath Munde, and senior officials of the Government of Maharashtra in Mumbai on 12 August 2026.
Emani Kumar, Deputy Secretary General, ICLEI and Executive Director, ICLEI South Asia, presented the agenda, outlining priority areas such as making cities across Maharashtra climate-resilient, reducing carbon emissions, promoting green mobility, and ensuring sustainable waste and water management.
The discussion reaffirmed the importance of strong state-level leadership and international cooperation in accelerating ambitious and inclusive climate action.
