With over 14 years of experience in the fields of Biodiversity Conservation, Community Development, Enterprise Based Conservation and Restoration Ecology, Mona is now working on developing the biodiversity portfolio for ICLEI South Asia. Md. Jubaer Rashid
Senior Project Officer (Sustainability Management), Bangladesh Operations

With around eight years of experience in the field of urban planning, development research, and geographical information system, Jubaer manages the ICLEI ACCCRN Process in various cities of Bangladesh. He is not only a sustainable champion, but also a cricket and a badminton champion! He has won many awards at school and college level. Jubaer also is an avid traveler. Lakshmi Sahitya Rachapudi
Project Associate (Urban)

An Architect Planner by profession, Sahitya is a Project Associate for the preparation of a heritage master plan for Amaravati city, Andhra Pradesh under the HRIDAY scheme launched by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. Sahitya is also our very own Carom and badminton player, having won many awards at college level. She is also a numismatist and a philatelist with coins and stamps from different countries, few of them dating back to the 19th century! Advocacy

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

Training

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.

ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide.
