UrbanShift project is funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) under GEF – 7 period and implemented through a partnership between UN Environment Program (UNEP) as Lead Agency, and the city-based organizations (CBOs): World Resources Institute (WRI), C40 Cities (C40) and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) as Program Executing Entity(s).
The objective of the UrbanShift project is to support cities pursue integrated urban planning and implementation that delivers impactful development outcomes with global environmental benefits (GEBs). The UrbanShift as a global program & offer complements the National Child Projects in 9 countries (also being developed under GEF-7 period) and specifically serves the local governments with a global support offer.
Project Duration: 5 years (November 2020 – October 2025)
Cities involved: Globally – 23 cities from 9 countries (Argentina, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, India, Indonesia, Morocco, Rwanda, Sierra Leone)
In India: 6 cities (Pune, Surat & Chennai; Secondary cities – Agra, Patna, and Mysuru/Coimbatore)
