Project Summary

ICLEI South Asia is supporting the Pune Municipal Corporation in strengthening the city’s e-waste management ecosystem through the Green Byte Pune project. The project is being funded by Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The project aims to strengthen Pune’s e-waste management by improving the collection, traceability, and monitoring of electronic waste. The initiative focuses on diverting the city’s e-waste to authorised collectors and recyclers, and establishing a centralised information repository and real-time monitoring dashboard. It adopts a data-driven and evidence-based approach to ensure informed decision-making for e-waste management in the city.

Under this initiative, a citywide e-waste value chain assessment is being developed to map the formal and informal stakeholders involved in Pune’s e-waste ecosystem. The initiative contributes to global commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), and supports India’s broader climate and circular economy objectives.
