GESI and EbA Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction in Cities: A Training Manual for Local Governments in India
The Training Manual for GESI and EbA Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction in Cities as been developed to strengthen the capacities of city officials to plan, finance, implement and monitor disaster risk reduction (DRR) and advocates a shift from response-centric disaster response to a preparedness-centric approach, integrating Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) into urban disaster risk management.
The manual includes eight modules spread across the four phases of the disaster management cycle, which have been tested through online and in-person workshops involving participants from 17 municipalities across Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka, with expert contributions from UNDP, UNDRR, CDRI and IFRC.
It offers a practical resource for urban practitioners to strengthen local capacities and advance more inclusive, ecosystem-based and resilient approaches to DRR.
