Climate-Induced Disaster Resilience Planning Guidelines for Kakinada Municipal Corporation

Climate-Induced Disaster Resilience Planning Guidelines for Kakinada Municipal Corporation

The port city of Kakinada faces recurring cyclones, urban flooding and heat stress, with the heaviest burden falling on slum dwellers, fisherfolk and informal workers. These guidelines aim to help the city shift from a response-and-relief approach to a mitigation- and preparedness-centric one. They integrate Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) across the disaster management cycle.

These guidelines aim to help the city shift from a response-and-relief approach to a mitigation- and preparedness-centric one. They integrate Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) across the disaster management cycle.

Kakinada Municipal Corporation anchored the development of these guidelines with technical assistance from ICLEI South Asia under the ‘Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN): Accelerating Inclusive Action’ programme, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and IDRC.
